It is now well established that apart from alcoholism, there are other factors responsible for Liver Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis occurs in response to damage to your liver. Every time, your liver is injured, it tries to repair itself. In the process, scar tissue forms. As Cirrhosis progresses, more and more scar tissue forms, making it difficult for the liver to function.
It is usually identified in the later stages because some of the symptoms are nonspecific i.e they have few symptoms or do not have any symptoms at all.
Even though you have been diagnosed with Liver cirrhosis or fatty liver, it is very evident that you can improve the quality of your life and prevent further damage, although liver damage caused by Cirrhosis generally cannot be undone.
The common causes of Liver Cirrhosis are:
- Chronic Alcohol abuse
- Accumulation of excess Fat in the liver (NAFLD)
- Chronic Viral Hepatitis like B and C Hepatitis.
- Iron built-up in the body
- Genetic digestive disorder ( Alagille syndrome)
- Auto immune Hepatitis
- Poorly formed Bile ducts
- Cystic fibrosis etc.
