Cardiovascular Diseases
Cardiovascular Diseases refers to conditions that involve narrowed or blocked blood vessels that can lead to a heart attack, chest pain or stroke. This develops when a combination of fatty material, calcium and scar tissue build up in the arteries that supply the heart with blood. The plaque often narrows the artery so that the heart does not get enough blood.
Factors that put people at increased risk for heart disease are :
- Smoking
- High Blood pressure ( Hypertension)
- High Cholesterol (Hypercholesterolemia)
- Diabetes
- Family history of heart problems, especially with a history of heart attacks and strokes.
- Obesity
It is possible to limit its progression by making lifestyle changes such as:
-
- Quit Smoking
- Eat a Heart Healthy Diet
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle with routine exercise
Aim for controlling high blood pressure, high Cholesterol, and Diabetes
